Diving

Maldives is undoubtedly a Paradise for Divers. The rare beauty of the magnificent underwater world has made the Maldives one of the most enchanting diving destinations in the world. Maldives has numerous dive sites of which some are ranked amongst the best in the world. The underwater visibility is at the highest level - sometimes exceeding 50 metres - and warm temperatures throughout the year make diving in the Maldives a pleasure one would always want to experience. Many visit the Maldives over and over again for the sole purpose of diving - to explore nature beneath the sea.

Diving Schools

Each and every resort in the Maldives has a dive school with all the modern facilities. The services provided by the dive schools are at professional standards with highly qualified multi-lingual instructors. Dive courses are conducted in different languages for beginners and those more experienced.

Diving can be booked in advance or upon arrival at the resort. Before you book your diving, please check whether your present insurance covers you for diving related accidents and if not we strongly advise you to take out the extra cover for this. Holiday insurance policies do not usually cover the pursuit of diving.

Here are some more points to consider if you wish to dive:

Clients will be required to complete and sign a Medical Statement before they begin to dive. If there are problems on the medical statement which gives cause for concern, then the clients MUST provide a medical certificate of physical fitness before being allowed to dive. In doubt, it is advisable to obtain the necessary certificate from your medical practitioner prior to arriving in the Maldives.

Copies of diving certificates/ licence and log book are required for qualified divers.

  • You will not be able to dive within 24 hours before and after flying.
  • Children below 12 years will not be allowed to dive.
  • Masks and snorkels will be available for rent or sale at the resorts. You are, however, advised to bring your own mask and snorkel.
  • Diving equipment and cylinders can be hired from the dive centre as required.
  • Snorkelling

The geographical formation of the islands of the Maldives provides each island with a coral enriched house reef just a few meters from the beach and enables those who snorkel the chance to experience the enchanting beauty of the underwater world just below the surface. Special snorkelling excursions are also arranged by the resorts to nearby coral reefs, uninhabited islands or other resorts. Snorkelling equipment will be available for rent or sale at the resort. However, if you have your own snorkel, masks and fins, these will provide a better fit than those on hire.
